A Onesie For All Ages How You Can Get Cozy Too
One thing rarely changes as we grow from kids to adults: our love of comfy clothes. Getting into our pajamas at fifty still feels as good as getting into our pajamas at five. One item that’s been particularly popular lately has been the onesies pajama. Everyone knows about kid pajamas onesies, but they’re available for adults now too! Those cozy footed pajamas are now available as adult foot pajamas too! What started out as mostly a joke in the early 2000s really took off in 2011, as more and more adults realized how comfortable the adult sized version of kid pajamas onesies really were.
Where Did Adult Onesies Start Anyway?
It will probably come as no surprise to anyone that the onesie craze was started by a celebrity — none other than Steve Pandi. It will also probably not be a huge surprise that it started out as a joke; they were originally worn onstage by the musician and his rock band. They were the first people to create and wear them and started getting attention as early as 2000, when they appeared on Oxygen TV’s show “Pajama Party.” The company started calling itself JumpinJammerz and celebrities began to give them as gifts, further spreading the craze.
Naturally, as others saw the demand growing, they began to make their own brands and distribute them. Pretty soon, you could find onesies almost anywhere. It hit its peak in 2011 and in 2012, Pandi threw a party where over 300 guests wore onesies and broke the Guinness World Record for what they titled “Largest Footed Pajama Party.” They’re popular today as both loungewear and sleepwear — and some celebrities even wear them as fashion statements.
What Are Onesies Made Of?
Traditional kid pajamas onesies and onesies pajamas are typically made of fleece. The thickness of fleece can also vary; it ranges from 100 to 200 to 300. The 300 level tends to be the thickest of the fleeces and not as flexible as the others. You have to be careful when washing fleece onesies though, as it can shrink up to 7% when put in the washer or dryer. It’s best to hand wash your onesie or at the very least, air dry it, for maximum usage. Cotton or chenille can also be used for onesies, particularly those worn out during the day or for hotter temperatures.
Where Can I Buy A Onesie?
Onesies are everywhere now! You can buy them to resemble your favorite TV characters, various animals, and in varying patterns and designs. If you’re looking for a specialized one, like one modeled after a TV show, often the producer of the TV show will sell them as merchandise online. If you’re just looking for your average cozy fleece onesie, department stores now carry them in adult sizes and other clothing stores are not far behind. Online is perhaps your best bet if you’re looking for an unusual onesie! A medium onesie for an adult is sized for an individual up to 5’9” and up to 180 pounds in weight.
Maximize your comfort and join the trend! You may be surprised by how comfortable you really feel!
